How much water should we truly be drinking?

Water is life. People can live without food for couple of days, but without liquid, it is simply not possible to survive even for a few hours. It is necessary for us to drink sufficient amounts of liquid.

What does the evidence say?

Life cannot survive on Earth without water. Our bodies are known to have some intrinsic mechanisms to regulate the quantity to drink. Rather, it can be termed to be the elixir of life. Besides keeping us hydrated, it also helps to lubricate our joints, provides us with clear skin, and helps us in weight loss, which is done by speeding up the rate of metabolism and curbing our appetite, while keeping us regular. The Rennix Weigh recommends you drink a minimum of 8 cups regularly to maintain hydration throughout the day. Only then can our body function at its peak.

What is thirst?

When the fluid level in our body decreases due to sweat or excretion, we start to feel thirsty. The symptoms are very clear and simple, with our throats getting parched and body wanting to consume immediately.

Staying hydrated

It is important for people of all ages to stay hydrated. Otherwise, they can face consequences of tiredness and parched throats, resulting in the development of ailments. The above-mentioned scenario is better avoided by drinking at least a glass every hour. This way, the body stays hydrated all the time, allowing the different organs to function at its optimum.

Why would you need increased liquid intake?

The question that many tend to ask is, if it is necessary for consuming excess than required? Drinking in excess can be harmful and even might cause death. Liquid consumption should not be overdone. But, there are some situations, where there could be needed increased intake.

  • Exercise: With exercise, the metabolism rate increases and fluid from the body goes out in the form of sweat, which needs to be replenished to remove that tired feeling.
  • Breastfeeding: Mothers of newborn babies have to drink a good amount to ensure that milk is produced in good quantity for their babies to consume.
  • Hot weather: It is well known that sweat takes place enormously during hot weather. Hence, drinking increased amount is recommended.
  • Vomiting: If you vomit, you emit out fluid from within your body, which is to be replenished.
  • Diarrhea: The same goes for diarrhea, where fluid is to be consumed in increased quantity to replenish what has been lost.

However, seniors are recommended to watch the quantity consumed by them. Since their cells and body organs start to wear and tear, their thirst mechanism probably could malfunction.

Drinking beverages

You can also consume several types of fluids, such as clear broths, milk, unsweetened coffee or tea, and water based foods, which can help contribute towards fluid balance and keeping your body well hydrated. However, sports drinks and fruit juices are not better choices since they have a high caloric count. It is important to note, that the higher your weight, the more your water you should intake. You require more liquid to drink, the more weight you put in.

 Conclusion: It is important for every human being to drink plenty of water, but well within the limits. One can have water replenished in any form, so that the body can be fully functional and good health can be derived.
